Obedience Versus Devotion
One is compliance. The other is a choice made again and again.
Obedience can be extracted. Devotion cannot. That difference is everything.
Obedience on its own is behaviour — doing as instructed. Devotion is motivation — wanting to, because something in the dynamic genuinely matters to you.
Research on motivation calls this the difference between extrinsic and intrinsic drive. Intrinsic motivation is more durable, more joyful, and far more meaningful.
Anyone can give orders. Very few inspire someone to want to follow them.
