The Art of the Slow Return

Finishing well is a skill. Most people rush it.


Endings shape memory. Psychologists call it the peak-end rule: we remember experiences largely by their most intense moment and by how they finished.

A rushed or abrupt ending can sour something that was otherwise wonderful. A slow, deliberate close lets the experience settle into something warm.

Lower the pace. Soften the voice. Offer a few words of reassurance. Let the room come back into focus gradually.

Close the door gently, and they will always want to open it again.
