The Myth of the Cold Dominant

Real authority is attentive. It notices everything.

Popular culture imagines dominance as cold, indifferent, even cruel. In practice, the opposite is true. The person holding the power must pay the closest attention of anyone in the room.

They read hesitation in a pause. They notice a change in breathing, a shift in tone, a word chosen differently than usual. Control without attention is just recklessness.

Coolness may be the surface. Underneath, there should always be care — focused, watchful, deliberate care.

The most commanding presence is the one that misses nothing.
